Should consequences for mistakes be made known to the general public before any mistake is committed? I disagree. I believe that a consequence should only be carried out, judging by the severity of the mistake. For example, if you were to skip a lecture to sleep, should you be given the same punishment as if you skipped a lecture to study for an important examination that would have serious implications to your future? By setting out a list of consequences for any wrong actions, the room for error, the room for justifiable challenges against the rules is being eliminated. Students are told that irregardless of the reason, they are to not commit any offences that breach the school’s code of conduct or else they would face a standard consequence, but sometimes, there should be room for breaching these conducts. Rules should not be created for offences before they are created, but instead be should be carried out only after the offence is committed, based on the justification of the students, his/her credibility and also the severity. It is easy to blame one for breaking the law regardless of his/her reasons, but more difficult to understand their predicament.

This topic is merely an after-thought. In no way is it related to any of the authors actions within his instituitions.

JC Life – A Survival

What exactly is JC life about? Is it about the wild parties, the coming of age, the senseless amount of homeworks or about the common Us (Ungraded). What exactly do people strive to achieve? Recognition? Entertainment? Results? Or just one hell of a good time? We have 7 days a week. With school ending at around 4.30pm, and various other activities following up till up till 7pm, how exactly are we supposed to find time for ourselves? Weekdays are spent coming home late, studying and finally sleeping as early as possible to prevent ourselves from dozing off on those comfortable chairs in a freezing lecture theatre. It becomes a routine. A boring, mindless, routine which reminds me very much of Zombies. Weekends are spent waking up late, resting a tiny bit and catching up on work while at the same time, preparing for tests that we are doomed to fail regardless of how much we study. So what exactly do we aim to achieve in JC? Is it too fast paced? Yes, totally. Should it be slowed down? Probably. Will it be slowed down? No. Maybe living in such such a stressful system will prepare us for the hectic university life. But maybe, just maybe, our education system is flawed. In JC, in University, it is impossible to have a well balanced life. If we do so, we end up as a ‘Jack of all trades, Master of none.”. So maybe our education system should be revised. Maybe its time for us to start searching for our reason for being in a JC. Till then, let us just aim to survive this sick, twisted game.

Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince Movie

Want to hear a joke? The latest Harry Potter movie.

As I have previously said, I haven’t watched a Harry Potter movie since Prisoner Of Azkaban. After watching the trailer and reading several movie reviews, I decided to give Harry Potter another chance. It was easily my worst mistake in many days. Nick and I catched the movie in Digital 2K at Eng Wah. Even with that, it failed to even register on the movie rating scale, let alone dominate it

The plot was incoherent, senseless and most of all, altered from that of the book. What’s the point of making a movie based on the book if it is going to be different in so many ways. The starting was meaningless. Harry was never in a cafe. It would be way to easy for the Death Eaters to kill him off. Death Eaters do NOT travel in dark smoke. What was that supposed to be? Were they trying to make the movie interesting? Total Disaster. I was left wondering why they couldn’t kill every single wizard opposing the Dark Lord if they could just pass through a building in the form of smoke and set it in blaze in the process. Senseless. Since when was the Weasley House set on fire? I have read the Half-Blood Prince too many times. I have never read of The Burrow being set on fire. Maybe my copy of the book is missing a couple of pages. The movie was missing several key, essential parts. Dumbledore’s theory on horcrux’s, Dumbledore’s Funeral, THE Quidditch Match and most obviously and important, the BIG BATTLE at the end of the book! It was at least 75 pages long. And they skipped it. They completely failed to mention the ministry of magic. They missed out the House of Tom Riddle Senior, which I felt was essential in understanding Voldemort’s Past. Certain scenes like the time Dumbledore first met Voldemort missed key aspects like how Voldemort seemed power hungry and his independance, which were key aspects of character. And for heavens sakes! There was WAY too much emphasis on humour and love scenes. Sure, a tiny bit would make the movie refreshing, but David Yates (director) overdid it! And DUMBLEDORE does NOT interfere and was never curious in Harry’s love life! I was left wondering whether this was a parody of the book by J.K. Rowlings. So little action, darkness and what not. Too much love and humour.

The casting was good though. Almost everyone was perfect for their roles. Snape played by Alan Rickman was fantastic. He did a great job. Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) was great too, performing the occasional emotional scenes convincingly. The only misfit was Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) who looked more like Amy Winehouse. Music was average

Movie rating : 1.5/5.

The movie got the 1.5 thanks to the actors.

Conclusion : Save the $9.50. Go watch something good like Public Enemies.

Why I Hate Movies Based On Books

To be completely honest, I haven’t watched a Harry Potter movie since Prisoner Of Azkaban. Good reason for that. Movies on books always dampens your imagination. It realigns all your imaginations of the book with how the movie potrayed the book. For example, if you imagined the castle in Harry Potter to be a Fort like Nakhal Fort in Oman, then this illusion that you have cast would have been crumpled and cast aside for the Castle potrayed in the Harry Potter movies. Movies on books ruin the imagination that every book aims to inspire. They cast an illusion of how things are supposed to look like and feel like upon you, ruining the entire purpose of a book. This has grown an intense dislike for this genre of movies.

Conclusion : Never make movies of books. They ruin, hinder and obliterate imagination.
